ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Thursday, May 18 is The Ascension of the Lord, a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 pm Wednesday evening at Our Mother of Good Counsel and at 8:30 am on Thursday at Queen of Angels Church.
As we give thanks for the priests and deacons who have served our parish communities in the past, we are pleased to announce that as of May 2, 2022, Fr. Rob Orlowski, Pastor of Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish, will become the new Temporary Administrator of Queen of Angels Parish in Lackawanna.
It is important to note that this is not a merger of the two parishes; both will remain independent. This also is not an indicator that either parish will be closing. As Fr. Rob assumes his administrative duties, he is anxious to get to know the parishioners of Queen of Angels as well as he knows the OMGC family of parishioners.
Both parishes are members of the same Road to Renewal projected parish family scheduled to begin in October 2023. Fr. Rob will continue as Pastor of Our Mother of Good Counsel and Temporary Pastoral Administrator of Queen of Angels until that time. As with any new assignment, changes will be necessary and we ask for everyone's cooperation. As we begin our journey sharing Fr. Rob, it will also be an opportunity to look for ways to share our faith, parish activities and to get to know each other ahead of the Road to Renewal Family structure.
To accommodate both parishes, daily masses as of May 2nd will be as follows:
Monday and Tuesday at 8:30am at OMGC
Wednesday Evening at 6:30pm at OMGC
Thursday and Friday at 8:30 am at Queen of Angels
As of now, weekend Masses will remain the same. Mass intentions for both parishes will be combined and announced at daily Mass. The standard funeral time will be 9:30am. However, every effort will be made to accommodate the needs of the family.
It is true that many would prefer to see no change. Some might prefer to go back to a previous way of being church. However, there is simply a very limited number of priests and the reality cries out for change now.
